BASSEKOU KOUYATE

Bassekou Kouyate is one of the true masters of the ngoni, an ancient traditional lute found throughout West Africa. He is a virtuoso, an innovator and a fiefdom of tradition. After his last two famous albums Jama ko and the rocking BaPower, Bassekou Kouyate and his group Nogni ba are back with a more subtle and rootsy album: ‘Miri’ (dream in Bamana). An album about love, friendship, family and true values in times of crisis, Bassekou returns to his hometown Garana, a small village on the Niger River. The instrumental song Miri captures this feeling. Bassekou sits on the banks of the Niger away from the noise, traffic jams and political unrest of Bamako and thinks about life.
Bassekou Kouyate est l’un des véritables maîtres du ngoni, un luth traditionnel ancien que l’on trouve dans toute l’Afrique de l’Ouest. Il est un virtuose, un innovateur et un fief de la tradition. Après ses deux derniers albums célèbres Jama ko et le très rock BaPower, Bassekou Kouyate et son groupe Nogni ba reviennent avec un album plus subtil et plus roots : « Miri » (rêve en bamana). Un album sur l’amour, l’amitié, la famille et les vraies valeurs en temps de crise, Bassekou retourne dans sa ville natale Garana, un petit village sur le fleuve Niger. La chanson instrumentale Miri capture ce sentiment. Bassekou s’assied sur les rives du Niger, loin du bruit, des embouteillages et de l’agitation politique de Bamako, et réfléchit à la vie.
